FAQ

  • Is there a cost to attend?

Yes, there is a registration fee for accepted students. This cost will be shared with students once they are invited to attend. Waivers are available for students who need financial assistance.

  • Do I have to identify as part of the APIDA community to attend?

Not at all! While the conference is designed to uplift students from Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Desi American backgrounds, students of all identities and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

  • How will I know if I’ve been accepted?

You’ll receive an official invitation email from the SHAPING team approximately three weeks before the conference. That email will include next steps, required forms, and travel details.

  • Where will students stay during the conference?

All student participants will stay in university-provided lodging. Details will be shared in your invitation email, along with a packing list and roommate information if applicable.

  • Can I attend if I don't know anyone else going?

Yes! Many students attend SHAPING without knowing anyone beforehand. The weekend is designed to help you build connections, make new friends, and feel part of a welcoming community.

  • Do I need to bring spending money?

All meals and activities are covered, so there’s no need to bring money. However, students may choose to bring a small amount for optional snacks or souvenirs from the WSU Bookstore.

  • Will meals accommodate dietary restrictions?

Yes! We work with campus dining to accommodate common dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergies, etc.). You can share this information on your application form.

  • Can I attend if I’m not from Washington State?

We prioritize students from Washington, but students from neighboring areas may be considered if space allows. Contact us before applying if you have questions.

  • What happens if I’m waitlisted?

If space opens up, students on the waitlist will be notified as soon as possible, usually within a week of the conference.
